The project consists of a residence for a young professional couple in a lot of approximately 5,000 square meters. It is located in Los Frailes Ward of the municipality of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Although rural in its immediate environment, it is surrounded by dense suburban developments, typical of the metropolitan area. An uneven topography, access, and views of the mountains are some of the attributes that characterize this lot. Among other things, the house had as design objectives to extend the interior spaces to the exterior, as well as the implementation of natural ventilation and illumination. This and the abrupt fall in the terrain was the basis for the residence’s composition and volumetric development. The proposed design intends to resolve the above mentioned objectives through the use of sloped high ceilings, reflective planes and modern sun shading devices, “bris soleisâ€, giving way for a contemporary scheme that tries to maximize the transparencies through the use of natural light, and at the same time establish a dialogue with nature.
