The project involves the design and construction of a two-story Medical Office Building as an extension of the existing Centro de Medicina Familiar in Gurabo. Based on the client’s program, the facility required approximately 6,800 square feet of net interior space. In response, the proposed design includes a total of 9,468 square feet of interior space, along with a 1,600-square-foot open terrace intended for company activities and potential future expansion. A double-height lobby at the entrance serves as a central circulation hub, providing access to both vertical and horizontal pathways, with adjacent waiting areas and discreetly located toilet facilities enhancing functionality and flow.
Though not part of the initial program, a front plaza with a small fountain and outdoor cafeteria has been introduced to foster interaction and connectivity between the new and existing buildings. An aluminum sunscreen integrated into the façade reduces heat transfer and energy consumption while also functioning as an aesthetic feature. Its patterned design and vibrant colors draw inspiration from the vernacular architecture of Gurabo’s hillside homes, establishing a visual and cultural dialogue with the surroundings and reinforcing the role of art as an integral element of the building’s identity.
