This design–build proposal replaces a deteriorated, non-compliant church facility in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, with a durable, cast-in-place concrete sanctuary of approximately 4,000 sq ft. The new structure pairs exposed concrete with custom corten steel walls and doors, creating a restrained, contemporary expression anchored in longevity and low maintenance.
Operable corten assemblies open the nave to prevailing breezes, leveraging the tropical climate for cross-ventilation and expanding worship to the outdoors. Carefully orchestrated natural and artificial lighting—through apertures, shading, and integrated fixtures—cultivates a reverential atmosphere appropriate for liturgy while enhancing thermal comfort, daylight balance, and experiential clarity.
